Join Lisa Fludd-Smith of the African American Archive of Columbia County for a powerful presentation exploring the history of enslavement in Rensselaer County. Through genealogy and historical documents, she will examine who these individuals were and what became of them—shedding light on the often-overlooked Black history of our region.

About the Speaker
Lisa Fludd-Smith is co-founder, Deputy Executive Director, and Board President of the African American Archive of Columbia County. A dedicated researcher and descendant of Black families who have lived in Columbia County for more than 250 years, she traces personal stories behind the historical record—including ancestors enslaved by prominent local families. She is currently writing a book on slavery and freedom in the area.
