Program Description

Description

On January 20, we recognize and celebrate the deeply humane and inspiring work of minister, activist, and civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr.  To honor Dr. King's legacy, the Monday Morning Book Discussion Group will be open to all who wish to join us to discuss Bryan Stevenson's Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption.

Stevenson, who was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Nonviolent Peace Prize from the King Center in 2018, is a widely acclaimed public interest lawyer and the founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative, a human rights organization in Montgomery, Alabama. EJI has won major legal challenges eliminating excessive and unfair sentencing, exonerating innocent death row prisoners, confronting abuse of the incarcerated and the mentally ill, and aiding children prosecuted as adults.

Copies of Just Mercy will be available for checkout at the library's circulation desk about a month before the program.  Registration for this program is recommended.
