Program Description

Description

In this presentation, John Stevenson will lead participants in writing their own haikus. Haiku is a kind of poetry written in Japanese and relating to a long tradition within the Japanese language and culture.  Over the past century, it has become world literature through adaptation to many other languages and cultures. Some of the essence of haiku has been adapted very successfully and much of it remains difficult or even impossible to render outside of Japan.

John Stevenson is a former president of The Haiku Society of America and an honorary curator of the American Haiku Archives of the California State Library. He has edited two of the most widely read English-language haiku journals.
