Judy Holliday won a Best Actress Oscar reprising her role in the Broadway hit about the ditzy, unrefined girlfriend of a sleazy junk tycoon (Broderick Crawford) who takes her to Washington, D.C., where she receives a social and political education from a newspaperman (William Holden). The film, director (George Cukor) and screenwriter (Albert Mannheimer) were all nominated for Academy Awards.
