Program Description

Description

1775 was a tumultuous year!

250 years ago, the 13 North American British Colonies were at a tipping point; fed up with a lack of representation, heavy tariffs, and fear that slavery could be abolished by a landmark court case in Great Britain, any hope of reconciliation was fleeting. By the middle of the year the American Revolutionary War had begun, and tensions were higher than ever.

This talk led by Sarah Lindecke of the Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site will cover the lead up to and some of the earliest life-changing aspects of the American Revolutionary War through the eyes of different groups of people (women, Indigenous people, etc.) who lived through these tumultuous times. Their stories tell about the fear, frustration, and triumphs of the early American Revolution.
