Program Description

Description

Join us for a unique music program bringing actual historic songs from the lumber camps in the Adirondack Mountains in the 1800's. You will also hear descriptive narrative of the history of the camps and music of that era.

The 1800’s were considered the golden era of the logging industry in the Adirondacks. It is an era when society first made huge demands for paper and lumber, and when there were few regulations for the harvesting of trees. Workers were attracted to the lifestyle of being a lumberjack even though the work was harsh and dangerous. Their songs were for leisure, with some written on the spot, or adapted from hearing them in passing.

Cosby Gibson & Tom Staudle are award-winning songwriters and musicians living near the Adirondacks. Cosby and Tom are also the recipients of the Dorn Space Arts Award for Music Outreach in 2019. Together they play originals and favorites with a variety of instruments such as guitar, fiddle, banjo, and harmonica, and in many settings such as festivals, concert series, livestreams, and community events. Learn more at https://www.cosbygibson.com/
