The Greatest of Them All (By the Numbers) is a documentary that celebrates character actor Ward Bond—the man who appeared in more Best Picture–nominated films than any actor in Hollywood history. The film takes viewers through the Golden Age of Hollywood, from the birth of the talkies to Bond’s death in 1960.
Along the way, it’s packed with classic film clips, behind-the-scenes stories, and surprising trivia that bring old Hollywood to life. The film also examines the impact of television on the movie industry.
The documentary was created by Frank Putallaz and his granddaughter. His collection of Silent Motion Pictures is on display in the Multi-Purpose room throughout March.
