Escape the frenzy of the 21st Century! 

December 2025 marks the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth. Austen is a literary icon who often included scenes of English Country Dance in her novels. See and example of Mr.Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet dancing at a ball.

This workshop focuses on basic English Country dance moves and figures that are fun and easy to learn. Mastering these skills enables a dancer to participate in regular local dance events and also in fancy dress balls like those depicted in Jane Austen’s novels. In addition to being a literary icon, Jane Austen was also good at English Country Dancing.

Don Bell (our caller) ran the English Country Dance series in Troy (20 years) and over many years, has led introductory workshops in English Country Dancing at the Flurry Festival in Saratoga and at other local dance venues. 

Neither dance experience nor a partner is required, You do need to be able to walk in time to the music without aid.
